When a Gold Cup event consists of two races, Striders 15 & Over must run the longer event (except the Ringing in Spring 5K) to receive Gold Cup points. Striders 14 & Under must run the shorter event to receive Gold Cup points. An exception is when the shorter race is 1 mile (Trail Run Xtreme Kids' Mile, Immanuel's Run into Fall 1 Mile & Hawaii FRA Kids' Mile). 12 & under must run the 1 mile race and 13 & over must run the longer race. Only Striders 15 & Over will receive Gold Cup points for the races 10 miles in length and for Half Marathons. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon will only be scored for Striders 19 & Over.
Gold Cup Award Requirements
14 & Under must complete 5 races to receive an award
15 - 18 must complete 7 races to receive an award
19 & Over must complete 10 races to receive an award
Thank you for inquiring about our Calumet Region Striders Youth Running Program. The track season generally begins near the end of April and our cross country season in late September. We practice two times per week, for one hour, usually in the time frame of 5:30 – 7:30pm. Cross Country season will fall into an earlier time period as the season progresses due to daylight savings and our concern for safety. We have practices in both Lake and Porter County, whichever site is more convenient for you to attend, although you can attend both. We participate in some local meets like Hershey and the AAU District Championships and also in some meets out of the area. How much you participate is up to you and your athlete. The following steps need to be taken to enter the program:
Step 1: become a Strider member $15.00 per family! (this is a calendar year membership, therefor, covering track and cross country season) www.calstrider.org
Step 2: pay the program fee $10.00 (this fee is paid per season, track in spring and cc in fall)
Step 3: purchase uniform (approximately 35.00) uniform can be used as long as it fits athlete, for both running seasons
Step 4: become friends with us on Facebook. We send out TONS of info through this site!! (free)
Step 5: be prepared to volunteer at our meets and our races that delegate their proceeds to our youth fund. This usually requires a two hour shift, and hey!!
You’re there anyways, why not help!!!
Additional costs would include the cost of meet registration fees. Hershey Track and Field is a free event. AAU meets run around 25.00 and USATF meets from $10.00 -$15.00. These organizations require their own membership which is $14.00 for AAU and $10.00 for USATF. It is NOT required that you have both memberships. You can pick the organization that best meets your scheduling needs.
For athletes who are participating in either middle school or high school programs, it is NOT necessary to attend practices until your school track or cross country season has ended.
You can join the Striders at any time on the website www.calstrider.org. Make sure you pay the additional program fee for the youth program. It is a separate step. Once you join you will begin to receive the monthly newsletter with details on all upcoming events, race registration applications, and club information. This is a great resource. Be sure to include an email as nearly all communication is done via internet.
