THE CALUMET REGION STRIDERS
2005 GOLD CUP SERIES

WHAT IS IT?
The 2005 Gold Cup Series consists of 26 officially designated road and cross country races. Each person who participates and completes the required number of races will receive an award.

WHO CAN ENTER?
You must first have an active Strider membership. A single membership is $15.00. Each additional family member is $7.50. The Gold Cup Series is optional and the $21.00 participant fee is separate from the Strider membership fee. For a race to calculate in scoring, you must join the series no later than race day of your first race. Adults 19 years and over will be required to complete a minimum of 10 races. Students 15-18 years need only complete 7 races. Junior Striders 14 and under need only complete 5 races. There is no penalty if you do not complete the required number of races other than the forfeit of the participation award.

OFFICIAL AGE DIVISIONS for both male and female:

  • 8 and under; 9-11; 12-14; 15-18; 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39;
  • 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 and over;
  • Clydesdale (male 190 lbs and over); Athena (female 150 lbs and over).

Age group status is determined by your age on JULY 1, 2005. You will compete in that group for the entire 2005 Gold Cup Series. Clydesdale and Athena divisions will be subject to a mandatory weigh-in on or before July 4, 2005 or otherwise forfeit all scored races within that class. Transferring from one division to another will not be allowed after completion of your first race. In the event a Clydesdale or Athena forfeits his/her class due to weight disqualification, they will be allowed to enter their individual age division at that time, but not allowed to carry over any points from prior races. At this point, it would be like starting the series over from the beginning, but with no additional cost to the participant.

HOW IS THE SERIES SCORED?
Each participant will be given a number indicating his/her finishing position at the finish line of each race. After each race, REPORT TO THE GOLD CUP TABLE with your number immediately after you finish, even if the race has computerized timing. If you are the fastest Gold Cup finisher in your age group you will receive 100 points for that race. Second place receives 99, and etc. The Chicago Marathon will be scored as two races. Your best 10 (7 for 15-18, 5 for 14 and under) finishes (any distance) will be scored for total points. Bandit running or using another participant's bib number is completely unacceptable. Disputed results must be resolved by the statistician by December 15, 2005.

Tie Breaking Criteria: Factors considered:

  1. Most wins in head-to-head competition;
  2. One of the scoring races must be 10K distance or longer; and
  3. Total distance of top 10 finishes.
For Junior Strider age groups 14 years and younger, the tie breaking criteria used will be:
  1. Most wins in head-to-head competition, and
  2. Total distance of top 5 finishes, if necessary.

WHAT DO I GET FOR JOINING THE GOLD CUP SERIES?
You will receive the following:

  1. An official Gold Cup premium;
  2. A $1 or more discount when you pre-register for any of the races in the series;
  3. A participation award if you complete the required number of races in the series;
  4. A complimentary dinner at the awards banquet which takes place the following January.
To qualify for the pre-registration discount you must meet each race director's deadline for early registration as stated on their application. Gold Cup discount(s) are not afforded on race day registration.

WHAT ABOUT WALKERS?
We have tried separate categories for walkers but have not had enough participation. Therefore, walkers may compete in the Gold Cup Series, but must compete in the same category as runners. For a race to count, walkers must register as a runner and compete in the Gold Cup Series event, not a shorter or separate walk.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
See Strider Brochure for membership/application form.

HAVE A GREAT RACING SEASON!
