THE TRAILS OF THE REGION

Course Description

An intermediate jogging and running course designed to introduce students to a variety of unique and scenic running trails throughout Lake and Porter County. Students will meet each Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at a different trail location for a short lecture and group run.

Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the running site each week. Students will also be required to go through a pre and post-test fitness assessment, as well as keep a jogging/running log book and earn a specific number of points to pass the course.

About the Instructors

Steve Kearney has been training and racing on trails in Lake and Porter County since 1963. Aside from being a veteran trail runner, Kearney has coached the Chesterton High School cross country and track teams to 10 top 10 finishes in the IHSAA. In addition, he is well known throughout the running community for his teaching methods and training techniques.

John Bobalik is an exercise physiologist and coordinator of Purdue University Calumet's Fitness Center. He is an instructor in FM 268 Physiology of Exercise and FM 103 Walking and Jogging. Bobalik is a former high school cross country and track coach, who has been involved in distance running and racing for several decades.
