Illinois Member-At-Large

I first joined the Striders in 1978, although I was not one of the original members. I also participated in the first four years of the Gold Cup series. I then took about 10 years off from the Striders and the Gold Cup to attend law school and play a lot of golf. I rejoined the club and the series when I realized how much I missed it and that my golf game was getting worse. I helped out at the Gold Cup table and served as the club's statistician for several years. For the last year I have been a member-at-large of the CRS board.

I run primarily for the health benefits, but I also enjoy the social aspects. I have made many great friends through participation in the Gold Cup Series races and other Strider events.

I first began running when I was in high school. Back then I thought running one mile was a long distance. I began running longer distances while in graduate school. The first time I ran three miles I thought that I had really accomplished something. My first race was the Blueberry Stomp 15K in 1977. It is also one of my most memorable races since I did not know how to pace myself and almost passed out after the finish. I have since learned not to start out too fast.

My proudest running accomplishment is the fact that I finished the first Chicago Marathon in 1977. It was called the Mayor Daley Marathon back then. I was planning to run only the first half but I felt strong and kept going eventually finishing the entire race.

I am also proud of the fact that I am still running after all these years especially after an extremely painful plantar faciitis problem that I was certain had ended my running career a few years ago. I usually complete almost all the Gold Cup Series races plus several more in the Chicago area.

I grew up in East Chicago and attended high school at Bishop Noll Institute. I moved to Illinois in 1977 for job related reasons and have lived there ever since. However, I will always be a Hoosier at heart. (I think that's good.)

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame (my proudest accomplishment). I also have master's degrees from Indiana University and DePaul University and a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School and I am a CPA. I have a law practice in downtown Chicago and the southern suburbs.
