THE CALUMET REGION STRIDERS
2008 OVERALL Gold Cup Competition

WHAT IS IT?

This is an addition to the Gold Cup Series for 2008. All Gold Cup eligibility rules apply. Unlike the traditional Gold Cup Age Group Scoring, here EVERY runner, regardless of age, competes against each other for an overall title. The Overall Gold Cup Title Competition is scored on a cumulative point system. Simply put, every RACE counts. Every PLACE counts.

The objective of the 2008 OVERALL Gold Cup Competition is to identify the top ten (10) men and the top ten (10) women Gold Cup racers regardless of age. This will be determined by awarding points (see HOW IS THE SERIES SCORED below) to the first ten men and first ten women in each Gold Cup race. This competition is ONLY for Gold Cup members. You must be a Gold Cup member at the time you run any Gold Cup race to qualify for points in that race.

WHO CAN ENTER?

You must first have an active Strider membership. A single membership is $15.00. Each additional family member is $7.50. The Gold Cup Series is an additional $21.00 per person fee. For a race to calculate in scoring, you must join the series no later than race day of your first race.

AWARDS

At the end of the year, the male and female with the most combined total points from every race in the 2008 Gold Cup Series wins.

The beauty of this scoring system is that it gives an incentive not only for speed, but for consistency and tenacity. A runner who shows up at the Gold Cup minimum of 10 races, but wins them all, will score 150 points. A runner who may not be quite as fast, averaging a 5th place finish, but who runs 25 of the 30 Gold Cup races, will score 175 points.

There are also two changes from the Gold Cup Age Group series. The Chicago Marathon will count as only one race for these standings. The Fall Frolic, as the series finale, will count double in the standings, with 30 points for the winner down to 2 points for tenth. This is done in an effort to make this into a "playoff" or "championship" if you will.

As for prizes, the Top 10 will be recognized at the annual Gold Cup banquet with award bags to reflect the tremendous accomplishment achieved. The overall champion will receive some type of spectacular recognition befitting their title status. It is anticipated this will be a waived elite entry into a high-caliber running event, but this is still to be determined.
