| CHINA OR BUST!
Valparaiso's Barb Spitler recently completed the grueling Great Wall Marathon,
conquering the 26.2-mile route that includes 3,700 steps, exhausting ascents,
steep descents and dirt roads through small, remote farming villages,
considered by many to be the most difficult marathon in the world. "The coolest moment
for me was when I was really struggling," said Spitler. "As I was passing
through a small village, two young children handed me a small bunch of flowers they had hand
picked. It made me feel so good. It really picked me up. I tucked them in my pack and pushed on."

Sue Brown wins RRCA 2004 Scott Hamilton Award
RRCA comments:
"With so many qualified applications it is a difficult job for our committees to select national award winners" said Tom Downing, chair of the Awards committee and the RRCA's President. "I think this year's award winners represent the best of our many volunteers..."
Sue's comments on winning:
"To have our club's accomplishments recognized at the national level is certainly an honor. May I commend all the board members and support
staff that aided in being selected for this award."
Sue's Nomination:
Sue Brown exemplifies the qualities of a model RRCA club president. Her exhausting efforts and pure love of our club have made the Calumet Region Striders (CRS) the outstanding organization it now is. Under her direction for the past five years, the club was transformed into a renowned running club recognized throughout the region. Along with promoting membership, increasing community awareness of the club, expanding geographic location of membership and board member participation, and improving the financial health of the organization in order to provide more scholarships and assistantship funds to runners, Sue maintained her 1st place Gold Cup age group title.

RAIN DOESN'T DAMPEN FUN FOR TREASURE HUNTERS
Treasure Hunt Fun Run Rewards Hardy Band of Athletes with Goodies Galore [Momentum Newsletter Issue 9/April 7]
A resilient group of fun runners braved heavy winds
and rains for MOMENTUM's "Inspired"
Treasure Hunt Fun Run. Celebrating the release of
Mizuno's new "Inspire" shoe, runners followed a
mystery course through Lincoln Park
collecting "treasure" along the way. Swag included
coupons and/or samples from Sweet Mandy B's
on Webster, the new Coldstone Creamery
on Clybourn, McGee's on Webster,
Argo Tea on Armitage, the Lakeview
Multiplex and Penguin Sportwash and Gloves
from Joints in Motion. Many thanks to
those who braved the bad weather, and to our
generous sponsors. A great time was had by all!
