The chair of this committee is responsible to:

  1. Evaluate and coordinate membership campaigns, benefits, and qualifications;
  2. Conduct membership retention activities;
  3. Prepare and coordinate annual membership renewal;
  4. Recruit volunteers for CRS events and operations;
  5. Recruit committee members for all committees; and
  6. Oversee volunteer recognition.
2009

I′ve been on the Calumet Region Striders board now for eight months. My first impression, at my first board meeting, was how serious every board member took their position. The Calumet Region Striders should be proud as a running club of how hard the board members work and care about your running club. I′m learning something about the club, at every board meeting.

As Volunteer and Membership Chairman, it′s been fun matching up the faces, when I finally meet some of the volunteers, that sign up for various events. On a personal note, I was proud to run all the Gold Cup races in 2008, and receive the Jim Cox award, and be part of the "Sensational Seven". Like Dennis Rotz (the iron man of the Gold Cup Races) said, it takes a little luck, whether it be car trouble, weather conditions, injury, or whatever to do them all.

Hopefully, I′ll get to meet more of our members this year at the races and training runs.

2008

I started running in 1983 and ran my first road race in 1984. It was the Popcorn Panic in Valpo, and after that race, I was hooked. I have been running and racing ever since.

I recently added up my miles. Since I′ve been running and racing, from all my logs, by the end of 2008, I′ll be closing in on 37,000 miles. My number of races is in the hundreds.

I was a member of the Calumet Region Striders from the mid to late 1980′s. Since I rejoined the Striders, I′m having more fun than ever. I really enjoy the friendships I′ve made over the years.

When the Board position opened up, I thought this could be a good wa for me to give back to the running community.
