I am 33 years old, married for 15 years to Brian, and have three charming, enjoyable and energetic boys: Timothy (13), Joseph (10), and Daniel (8). I am a registered nurse and truly enjoy what I do.

I ran cross country and track & field when I was at Portage High School. I wasn′t the best runner, but determination and motivation kept me going. Over the years, my running would vary depending on what was going on in my life, but nothing competitive just to stay in shape. In 2002 I was determined to run a race. I would run a couple times a week (thinking I was properly training) to get ready. Tim (age 7) had decided to tag along with me on this adventure. Our first race was Nativity Festival 5K. Wow, that was more than I had expected but of course Tim finished without a problem! Over the next couple years (and still) Tim and I ran the Nativity race. After a couple years Brian started running (first race Fitness Barn 10k) and then Joseph (first 5k at age 10) and Daniel (first 5k at age 8). We truly enjoy spending time as a family and running has become part of our lives.

I am currently in my third running in the Gold Cup Series. I have run 3 half-marathons and currently training for my first marathon in St. Louis on April 6, 2008. Without the support of my husband and children all this would not be possible.

I have volunteered for two years with the Junior Striders in assisting wherever help is needed. Whether it was to help out at practice, stand in the rain getting the kids staged, or planning arrangements for Nationals. To see the excitement and determination on these children proves that anything is possible when your mind is set to it.

I assisted adult beginner runners prepare for their first 5k, which was the Portage YMCA Turkey Trot in November 2007. This experience made me realize how much I love to run. It is not how fast you run, but the joy of accomplishing something you never thought possible.

The people that we meet and the friendships that have been made through the Calumet Region Striders are more like family. We have a wonderful group of people that we run with every week and cheer each other through the good and bad times. Not only has this been a rewarding adventure for us but for our children also.

I look forward to being part of the Calumet Region Striders Board!
