Mary ZemanskyChair, Gold Cup & Sponsored Race Series |
Having served on the Board for four years, I have learned a lot about the running community. For more and more of us, running has extended beyond the competitive aspects to include the determination to better oneself physically and mentally, provide the chance to interact with persons from all walks of life, and to achieve that elusive goal that we are all striving for - stress management. I have come to appreciate the immense dedication that race directors and event planners have for the sport, especially the organizational demands that accompany the production of an event. While non-runners may look at us and shake their heads (as so many of my friends do), those of us who love running thrive on the satisfaction it brings us, whatever reasons serve as our motivators.
As your Gold Cup Chair, I depend upon member input to ensure that the club is providing a variety of challenges to fulfill your needs. Last year we added a Long Distance Series for those who want more sustained challenges. We continue our commitment to promoting new races via our Sponsored Series. Our aim is to have something for everyone - youngster or masters, short or long distance, competitive or fun run. Please send me your thoughts and ideas on how we can keep our club one of the best. Oh, and if you′re looking for a challenge and haven′t yet tried a half-marathon (now the most popular distance in the U.S.), remember the halfers motto: "Half the distance, twice the fun".
