Past President
(2000-2004)
Multi-sport events continue to grow in popularitv and offer many options and challenges both as an athlete, and as board director. This generation of runners is more demanding and disciplined in their training regimen. Trying to keep pace with modern technology, maintain member interest and tradition is always a welcome challenge. Through it all, I can honestly say that I still manage to have fun! My most personal accomplishment was getting talked into and completing the Chicago Marathon three years ago after never wanting to attempt one.
As I enter my 12th competitive season, four marathons later, and in search of my 2004 goals, I find myself looking for other trail distance runs as my experience at the Tecumseh Trail Marathon in Bloomington, IN in December 2003 was simply a pleasant and unique adventure! I participate in duathlons as opposed to triathlons; and a future attempt for a Boston Marathon qualifying time is most likely. My current energy is focused on getting my two sons Robert and Ryan through college, and then, as a result of a Christmas engagement, will make wedding plans with my Strider sweetheart, Jimmy Nickerson. A CRS member since 1992, I have served on Gold Cup Advisory and Website Committees, as past Secretary, and Porter County Member at Large. I'm a life long resident of Northwest Indiana, and Chesterton High School graduate having run track under Coach/CRS member Steve Kearney.
The progression of the website, growth in membership, and development of Junior Strider programs have been my primary focus. It has been a pleasure to be your most recent Strider President. I have made so many life-time friends as a virtue of this organization. Membership is our greatest strength of resources, so keep recruiting, keep running, and see you at the races!
